The first episode of Moon Knight is now tied with The Falcon And The Winter Soldier as the second best debut for a series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Moon Knight premiered last Wednesday (March 30) on Disney Plus and was viewed in over 1.8 million (similar to The Falcon And The Winter Soldier) American households in its first five days.
It is now the second most watched pilot episode in the MCU, trailing only behind Loki, which was viewed in over 2.5 million households, Samba TV reported.
As for the other MCU shows, WandaVision debuted to over 1.6 million US households and Hawkeye came in last with 1.5 million.
This is surprising because unlike the other series, Moon Knight is not a pre-established character in this universe. There’s never been any mention of his name in other MCU projects. So for it to beat the likes WandaVision and Hawkeye, which feature characters that we’ve known for years prior to their streaming debuts, is nothing short of impressive.
Moon Knight received generally positive reviews with both critics and fans for Oscar Isaac’s charismatic performance in the lead role and how it is unlike anything we’ve seen in the MCU.
It currently has a score of 87% on the tomatometer and an average audience score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Check out IGN’s review of the premiere episode below.
