Anime Season Spring 2022: Must-Watch New Shows You Might Not Have Heard Of

The upcoming spring 2022 season is looking packed with potentially good anime, especially sequels to already beloved series such as “The Rising Of The Shield Hero” and “Kaguya-sama: Love Is War”.

However, if you’ve already watched the previous seasons of those anime, you’re most likely already set on watching the new seasons. Thus, we’re here to recommend some new anime that we think are worth checking out.

1. SPY x FAMILY

Release date: April 9, 2022

Popular comedy manga title SPY X FAMILY gets an anime adaptation this season. This series follows a spy, an assassin and an esper who are acting under the guise of an innocent family to carry out their own agendas. Animated by two powerhouse studios in the anime industry, Wit Studio (Attack On Titan, Vinland Saga) and Cloverworks (Darling In The FranXX, Horimiya), we think this will likely be the breakout new anime for Spring 2022.

2. Ao Ashi

Release date: April 9, 2022

Release date: April 9, 2022

Here’s a tip if you’re new to watching seasonal anime: if Production I.G is animating it and it’s a sports anime, then it is absolutely worth checking out. This studio rarely ever misses the mark when sports is the focus of the show. Their work on hits such as “Haikyuu!”, “Kuroko’s Basketball” and the super underrated “Run With The Wind” prove that they are the best in this genre. So combine their talents with the story of this highly rated football manga and you’re set for a good time.

3. Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie

Release date: April 10, 2022

After My Dress-Up Darling finished airing last season, we weren’t sure if there’s anyone else who could steal our hearts this year the way Marin Kitagawa did, but Shikimori looks like she’s got huge potential to do just that! “Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie” is about the ultimate girlfriend who has a hidden side, which is only revealed under the right situations. This is a new high school comedy you don’t want to miss.

4. Summertime Render

Release date: April 14, 2022

"Summertime Render" is a supernatural thriller anime adaption of the manga of the same name. The story follows Shinpei Ajiro, a young man whose parents died when he was young and moves in with friends Ushio and Mio Kofune. Shinpei later moves to Tokyo but returns home when he heard that Ushio had passed away. During the funeral, Shinpei notices bruises around Ushio’s neck, which leads him to question his friend’s cause of death. Follow along to uncover this mystery when it airs on April 24, 2022.

5. Dance Dance Danseur

Release date: April 9, 2022

If you’ve been following anime closely in the past year or two, you’ve probably heard of studio MAPPA by now. This studio is behind some of the biggest anime titles right now such as “Jujutsu Kaisen”, “Attack On Titan: The Final Season” and the highly anticipated “Chainsaw Man”, which is set to be released later this year. “Dance Dance Danseur” looks to be another beautifully animated series from the studio and one that will pull on the heartstrings as well. It’s reminiscent of another dancing-focused anime titled “Welcome to the Ballroom”, which was very well received.

These are all the new anime for the Spring 2022 season that we believe are worth watching. If you have any recommendations that you think we’ve missed, comment below!
